We're thrilled to share some exciting news from the treatment room. Say goodbye to messy dental impressions and hello to the future of scanning, our brand-new Trios scanner is now in use at the practice.
What does the Trio 5 scanner replace? The putty that set around your teeth! Before the arrival of digital scanning, dental impressions were made using large plastic trays filled with thick, sticky putty that were pressed firmly onto your teeth and gums, requiring you to sit still with your mouth uncomfortably open while the material set in 60 seconds, which often felt like a week.
The texture was dense and rubbery, the taste was usually an artificial mint or bland chalky flavour, and the feeling was cold, invasive, and unfamiliar. Because the material had to harden in your mouth before it could be removed, you were unable to speak, swallow normally, or relax during the process.
Although this method was once the gold standard, it lacked the precision of today's technology, often requiring manual adjustments, repeat appointments, and additional lab work to compensate for small errors in shape or fit, making it less reliable and far less pleasant than the revolutionary digital scanning process we're proud to now offer.
