We know that choosing a dentist is a hard decision. Most people aren’t in a position to judge when dentistry is good or bad so we’ve made a top 10 list of points that we would look for in a dental practice that might be helpful.
How qualified is your dentist and do they have any qualifications that show they have undertaken advance training.
If you are planning to have more advanced dental treatment (for example Dental Implants or complex dental procedures) then make sure your dentist is properly trained in these procedures and experienced. Any dentist can offer implant treatment or cosmetic dentistry without undergoing advanced training but these are difficult procedures to correct if they go wrong. Do your research and ask to see examples of cases that have been treated. most dentists who do this work routinely will be proud to show off their skills!
Does your dentist take the time to listen and explain your treatment? Have the different types of treatment been explained to you and has your dentist explained any possible complications?
Are the costs of treatment fully explained along with any payment plans?
Does that practice run any membership schemes that can help to spread the cost of treatment?
If you have an emergency can you be seen quickly? The only thing worse than toothache is having to wait while you are in pain.
Does the practice emphasise prevention? Most dental problems can be prevented with the right advice and routine treatment but the practice needs to actively promote preventive dentistry.
Is the practice easy to deal with? Can you make an appointment easily without having to wait ages to be seen?
Does the practice comply with the latest standards in cross infection control to minimise the risk of spreading infections?
Does the practice offer FREE consultations to discuss your concerns with no obligation?
